Go to your phone browser and type there www.whatsapp.com/android after tap on search button ,now you can see download whatsapp option available there, download it,after download the whatsapp file then you have to open Redmi  Note 4 phone explorer , open the APKs file ,after open the APKs file go to whatsapp.APKs file tap an install it ,on time of  installation of whatsapp.APKs file it can be say that for security, your phone is block installations of apps from unknown sources ,go to phone security and enable to the unknown sources and then back to Whatsapp.APKs file and install it. 
After installation you have to one more thing because we have to eliminate its cause root you have to search for a mi apps,search and install it .This app rather than play store it can automatically download the application from their own server and update your application automatically , this cause application version mismatched so this is the reason that’s why your whatsapp not working on latest Redmi phones. For further issues go to settings and disable to auto update. This will solve your whatsapp not working,version has outdated in Redmi Note 4 and latest phones issue.
